1. Will my lesson plan only be used for educational purposes?
Yes, absolutely. Any use other than what has been stated here is not authorized, and would require your permission.
2. How will the annual awards for best new units be announced?
We will place an announcement on the first page of the K-12 Curricula section of the givens.org website, and the winning curricula will have an indication of the award. If you are a winner, we will contact you before sending the gift certificate.
3. Is there any other way that I could submit a curriculum unit other than by the web format?
We prefer having work submitted through the web site. However, you may also e-mail it or send a typed or word-processed copy. Please provide the information requested on our submission form (your name, address, educational affiliation, etc.) and curriculum outline (title, overview, grade levels, lesson goals, etc.)
To email, click on Contact Us at the bottom of this page. You could mail a printed copy to African American Curriculum Exchange, The Givens Foundation, 7151 York Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55435.
4. How will my privacy be protected when I submit a curriculum unit?
We won't post or release your address or email, only your name and school, district, or institutional affiliation.
5. Will the Givens Foundation change my unit?
We may do some light editing by educators who will respect your work. We will add a posting date, provide information on how the unit relates to Minnesota Content Standards, and, where possible, link it to other related sites.
6. May I ask for the unit to be removed at some point?
Of course; it is still your unit, and you may ask us to stop posting it at any time. Please let us know by email through the "Contact Us" button below.
7. Do I still own my unit?
Absolutely; posting it on AACE is simply one way that you can share it with other teachers, and have it used in classrooms across America.
8. May I post the unit on another web site? Can the Givens Foundation?
You may use your unit in any other way that you choose. We, however, can only use your unit on this site, as described on this page.
9. Can only K-12 teachers submit curricula, or will the site accept units from pre-service teachers, college professors, teaching artists and other people who work with students?
We welcome curricula written by any educator, and encourage submissions from students and faculty at colleges of education, in addition to those written by teachers and curriculum experts at schools and other institutions. Please use the submission format that we provide on this site.
