AFRICAN AMERICAN CURRICULA FOR K-12 TEACHERS

The old black woman of the sky chased the red-eyed sun across the sky every evening and smothered him in her cloak at last. This had happened many times.

This K-12 curriculum site will feature lesson plans and curricula related to African American literature, history, plays, poetry and biographies. All of the materials are intended for classroom use by teachers, without charge. The curricula will be presented on this site after having been reviewed, evaluated and indexed by a team of teachers from the Twin Cities Public Schools.

Each curriculum offering will be assessed for its alignment with the graduation rules and content standards for Minnesota schools; teachers everywhere will be able to benefit from that level of detail regarding the appropriate grade levels and use of these materials. Additionally, each curriculum will have a discussion file attached where teachers may share their comments and suggestions with each other via the web.

Teachers nationally are encouraged to submit their own curricula, for potential inclusion on this site, by fax, mail or electronically. Up to five annual prizes will be awarded for the best submissions of curricula posted on this site by a teacher of any subject.

Pre-service education students who are writing related curricula for K-12 students while studying at any of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities will also be invited to submit their lesson plans for classroom teachers to use. A separate set of annual prizes will be awarded among those education students for the best new curricula submitted to this site.
